Issue with RSS Feed

We've still got issues with the RSS feed from this site since the upgrade to Drupal 6.

The first article shows correctly in the feed and then becomes repeated, often replacing the 2nd, 3rd and 4th articles and so on.

Since the Feedburner feeds are due to be moved across to Google Feeds anyway, I'm going to disable the Feedburner module for the time being and revert back to Drupal's built-in RSS feeds.

Options for Process Mapping Software

I've been asked to help someone out with a process map and although my first advice was to draft it on paper, then we can figure out what it should actually look like, my second point was to ask what software was available. I'd already guessed that there would be no formal process mapping software, let along Business Process Management suite that I'd have liked to have seen. I was at the point of hoping for MS Visio, as a diagramming tool, it works, but it does mean that you have to capture the rest of the process description elsewhere.

Missing out on the detail - How To Be Musically Creative

It's odd what you don't notice when looking at the detail.

I used to check my site stats every couple of days. I knew this wouldn't continue, but I've had some fun trying to guess what readers were actually searching for, despite the search terms entered.

Part of the reason I wanted to move away from looking at them so often is that I quickly lost sight of what brought readers to this site. I could see from day to day, but not what counts over a few months.

Upgrade Issues

This is the log of issues resulting from the recent upgrade from Drupal 5.x to Drupal 6.x. The issues are relatively minor and so the site is still live and mostly working.

Fixing the broken security update on OS X 10.4

I installed the latest java and security updates (2009-001 1.0) to my 10.4.11 MacBook a couple of nights ago. Even during the installation process, it was showing signs of problems. The updater failed to install the update several times. The Macbook wouldn't shut down despite leaving it for 15-20 minutes. Nor would it boot. The only way to get the machine up and running was to do an Archive and Install.

99 ways to improve your guitar playing

Guitar Player featured an article back in April 2006 about 99 ways to Play Better Guitar.

I've just read it again and it's still as relevant now as it was then. I'm now curious how many of them I do on a regular basis.

Sorting out the catalogue at Award Sounds

Like most things in life, it's easier to accumulate clutter. Every professional and most amateurs involved in digital media know it's getting more awkward as time goes by and as we accumulate more files.

I've just worked my way through every folder on my audio workstation from now back to January 2008 and a few before.

Use ADC xcode, not the one on your install disk

Contrary to what's published in the documentation and install notes on Macports, I've come to the conclusion that, if you're using OS X 10.4, you'll need to update to the xcode version on the Apple Developer Connection anyway, so I'm not sure I see the point finding the original OS X install CDs/DVDs.

I haven't tried it that way, but I went through a frustrating process before.

Keep/Discard

As part of the clear-out of our house in preparation for redecorating, I've been going through my CD collection. They're going into 3 or 4 piles depending on what I think they'll be useful for. Many of the collection wont feature here, just those border-line CDs that I couldn't decide on without listening to again. I'll add to the list as I go along.

Installing Macport on OS X 10.4

This has been frustrating however it's beginning to look like there's light at the end of the tunnel.

I thought I'd install Macports so I could install the full version of Gimp on Tiger (OS X 10.4). First you have to find your install cds. After downloading Macports itself, installing and trying to install Gimp2, I found that the version of xcode on the install cds is not sufficient.
