Sorting out the catalogue at Award Sounds

Like most things in life, it's easier to accumulate clutter. Every professional and most amateurs involved in digital media know it's getting more awkward as time goes by and as we accumulate more files.

I've just worked my way through every folder on my audio workstation from now back to January 2008 and a few before.

The aim was to ensure that I had an exported wav and/or mp3 file for each song folder. That way, I'd quickly be able to see what the song folder was for and whether I could use it for another purpose. In doing so, I managed to delete a few folders that were frankly uninspiring or easy to re-create another time. That's made for fewer folders.

So now I have a main Songs directory with each folder given a reference number and possibly a name. I also have a separate Bounce folder (I don't use the folder that Logic allocates. I find it's awkward to listen to a list of the music I write that way.

Future

Maybe I should look into setting up some folder actions/automator/workflow to ensure that any files in Logic's bounce folders are moved to my own Bounce folder. Not really important right now though.

Better still would be to look at a Media Management application. More thoughts on that later.
